you've got an oddly-shaped gift and thirty minutes before you have to leave. you panic. don't.
first thing: do not use a gift bag. you will be tempted. a wrapped thing always beats a bag. do not.
second: get the paper. cut more than you think — you want enough to fully cover the widest side twice. a boring kraft sheet with one good ribbon looks more expensive than the loudest foil paper.
third: place the gift face-down and diagonally on the paper. wrapping on the diagonal handles weird shapes far better than square-on.
fourth: fold the paper up and over, crease it hard with your thumbnail — sharp creases are the whole secret — and tape on the underside so no tape shows.
fifth: one ribbon, one small tag, done. that's it.
the gift is wrapped. it looks intentional. the whole thing takes about two minutes.
a small confession: even after years of doing this, i still sometimes cut the paper an inch short. i blame the cat.
