A Chatrandom alternative, built for India

What Chatrandom is

Chatrandom (chatrandom.com) pairs you with a random stranger on video. Its homepage says there's no sign-up, and that clicking Start confirms you're 18 or older. It lets you choose between everyone, females only, males only or couples only, and pick from more than 80 countries. It sells a paid plan called Chatrandom Plus, which it describes as unlocking all features. We couldn't confirm which options are paid or what Plus costs. There's a Chatrandom app on Google Play, published by Small World Media LLC according to its listing.

Why people look for a Chatrandom alternative

• They want to meet people in India rather than choose from a long list of countries.
• They'd like an age check that asks for a date of birth, not just a click to confirm.
• They want games and conversation starters built into the call.

How kynq compares

• kynq matches you with someone else in India. Chatrandom is global, with a country picker.
• Both say they're for adults. kynq asks for your date of birth before you can match and blocks anyone under 18. Chatrandom's homepage asks you to confirm you're 18 or older when you start. Neither checks ID that we know of.
• kynq asks you to sign in with Google first. Chatrandom's homepage says there's no sign-up to start, so it's faster to begin.
• kynq has an optional gender preference that costs Koins. Chatrandom's gender and country options sit alongside its paid plan, and we couldn't confirm which are paid.
• kynq doesn't record or store video or audio. We couldn't confirm Chatrandom's policy because its privacy policy blocked our check.
• kynq has text chat with GIFs, conversation starters and quick games you can play mid-call, plus report and block in the call.
• Chatrandom has a website and an Android app. kynq is browser-only right now.

A trade-off worth knowing about

Not needing to sign in means Chatrandom can have you chatting in seconds. kynq asks for a Google sign-in, a date of birth and a phone number first. That's more steps, in return for a pool of adults in India who've given a date of birth. If speed matters most to you, Chatrandom may suit you better.

Switching in three steps

• Tap Start chatting and sign in with Google.
• Confirm your date of birth. You must be 18 or over.
• Allow the camera and microphone, say hello, and you'll be matched with someone in India. Tap Next person whenever you like.
