Set up before you press start

Most bad first calls come from small technical problems, not from other people. Fix these first and you can concentrate on the conversation.

• Use Chrome on desktop or Android, or Safari on iPhone, and allow camera and microphone access when asked.
• Sit facing a window or lamp so your face is lit from the front.
• Use earphones if you can, which reduces echo.
• Check what is visible behind you, such as documents, name boards or family photos.
• Close other apps that use your camera or slow your connection.

Decide your limits in advance

Before the first call, decide what you will not share: your full name, phone number, address, college or workplace, and social media handles. You can always share more later, but you cannot take it back.

Decide too that you can leave whenever you want. You owe nobody a full conversation, and ending a call is not rude.

During the call

Say hello, smile, and ask something easy. Let the other person finish speaking before you reply. If you are nervous, say so, since most people relax when you are honest about it.

Know your safety tools

Not every match will be pleasant, and knowing how to respond keeps it stress free. On kynq, Next person and Leave end a call at any moment. Report is one tap inside a call, and Block ends the call and means you will never be matched with that person again.

Nobody should ask you for money, OTPs, UPI details or to click unfamiliar links. Anyone who does is a scam, so end the call and report them.

Look after yourself afterwards

If a call left you uneasy, take a short break, drink some water and step away from the screen. Talking to strangers takes energy, and you do not need to do it for hours. Start again when you feel like it.
