How to leave an awkward video chat without the drama

Every random video chat eventually produces a call you want to leave. Sometimes it is only boring, and sometimes it is uncomfortable. You do not owe a stranger your time, and there is a right way to exit for each situation. This guide covers what to say, and when to skip the words and simply go.

When it is just awkward or boring

If nothing bad happened and the chat has run dry, a polite exit is kind and quick. Say it in a warm, matter-of-fact tone, then actually leave rather than lingering.

"It was nice talking to you. I am going to move on now, take care."
"I need to get back to something, thanks for the chat."
"I do not think we are on the same wavelength, but good luck!"
"I am going to head out. Have a good day."

When you feel uncomfortable but nothing serious happened

Perhaps they ask too many personal questions, push a topic you dislike, or make you feel uneasy. You can set a limit once, calmly: "I would rather not talk about that." If they respect it, carry on. If they keep pushing, leave without further explanation.

You do not need a reason that satisfies them. Your comfort is reason enough.

When to just leave, with no explanation

Some behaviour deserves no polite goodbye. End the call immediately if the other person:

Shows nudity or sexual content, or asks you to do the same.
Harasses, insults or threatens you.
Asks for money, OTPs, UPI details or bank information.
Pushes you to move to another app or share your number.
Seems to be under 18.

Report and block afterwards

Leaving is only half the job. On kynq, Report is one tap inside a call, with reasons such as nudity, harassment and looks under 18. The other person is never told who reported them. Block ends the call and you will never be matched with them again.

Reports are how problems get reviewed: three open reports on an account restrict it from matching while a person looks into it. If you are unsure, report anyway. If you need help with a serious situation, write to hi@kynq.in.

Shake it off

An unpleasant call says something about that person, not about you. Take a breath, and if you would like a break, close the tab. When you come back, you can start fresh with a new match.
