A Chatroulette alternative, built for India

Chatroulette launched in 2009 and is widely seen as the original random video chat. If you want something similar but with people in India, or a date-of-birth check before you can start, kynq is worth a look.

A note on sources: Chatroulette's own website blocked our automated check on 1 October 2026, so some details below come from its app store listings and public references. Where we couldn't confirm something, we say so. Check anything important with Chatroulette directly.

18+ only. Free to start, no download.

What Chatroulette is

Chatroulette pairs you with a random stranger on camera, and you can move on to someone new whenever you like. It was founded in 2009 by Andrey Ternovskiy, then a teenager in Moscow. Its iOS and Android apps are published under the developer name CR Services AG. In its early years it was widely criticised for explicit content. Public references say it has since added AI nudity detection and human moderators, though the figures we found date from 2020.

Why people look for a Chatroulette alternative

  • They want people in India, not the whole world.
  • They want a service that asks for a date of birth up front. Public references say Chatroulette asks you to confirm you're 18 or over, but we couldn't confirm how on its own site.
  • They want games and conversation starters so a call doesn't go quiet.

How kynq compares

  • kynq matches you with someone else in India. Chatroulette is global, and we found no India-specific option.
  • kynq asks for your date of birth before you can match and blocks anyone under 18. kynq doesn't check ID. We couldn't confirm Chatroulette's method.
  • kynq signs you in with Google. Public references say Chatroulette needs a free sign-up too, but we couldn't confirm that on its own site.
  • kynq doesn't record or store video or audio. We couldn't confirm Chatroulette's policy from its own site.
  • kynq has text chat with GIFs, conversation starters and quick games you can play mid-call, plus report and block in the call.
  • Chatroulette has iOS and Android apps as well as a website. kynq is browser-only right now.

Check you're on the real one

Plenty of websites use the Chatroulette name without being the original. If you decide to try it, check the developer name in the app store before you install, and be careful about entering personal details on look-alike sites. The same goes for any random chat service.

Switching in three steps

  • Tap Start chatting and sign in with Google.
  • Confirm your date of birth. You must be 18 or over.
  • Allow the camera and microphone, say hello, and you'll be matched with someone in India. Tap Next person whenever you like.
