kynq vs Monkey app, side by side
kynq and Monkey are both random video chats for adults, but they're built differently. Monkey is a global app that matches by shared interests. kynq is a browser-based chat that matches you with people in India.
The table below uses what Monkey says on its own website and safety centre, plus Common Sense Media's October 2025 review, checked on 1 October 2026. Where we couldn't confirm something, it says so.
kynq: 18+ only, free to start, matches you with people in India.
The two side by side
| kynq | Monkey | |
|---|---|---|
| Who you meet | People in India only | Global; no India option mentioned on its site |
| Where it runs | In the browser on a phone or laptop. No app | Web and Android. We couldn't find it on Apple's App Store |
| Sign-in | "1-tap" social login | |
| Age rule | 18+ | 18+ (its safety centre) |
| Age check | Date of birth required. Not ID verification | Says it asks your age at sign-up and uses AI to flag possible underage users. Common Sense Media reported no age verification |
| Moderation | Report and block in the call; blocked people are never matched with you again | Says it uses AI moderation of live video, plus reporting during and after a match |
| Video recording | Not recorded or stored by kynq | We couldn't find a stated policy |
| How matching works | Anyone in India who's online. Saved topics don't filter matches yet | By shared interests, worldwide |
| Extras in the call | Text chat with GIFs, conversation starters, games, camera effects | "DUO Mode" to chat as a pair. We couldn't confirm games |
| Price | Free to start; some extras use Koins | Free to use according to Common Sense Media; we didn't confirm paid options |
Where Monkey is ahead
- It's a bigger, older community, with people online around the clock from many countries.
- It matches you by shared interests, which kynq doesn't do yet.
- It has DUO Mode for chatting as a pair, and an Android app.
- It says it runs AI moderation on live video. kynq relies on reports and blocking and doesn't claim automatic moderation.
Where kynq is different
- Everyone you meet is in India, so time zone and language are usually shared.
- We ask for your date of birth before you can match. We can't verify it against an ID, so we also rely on reports.
- kynq doesn't record or store your video or audio. The other person could still record their own screen.
- It works in a browser, including on iPhone, with no install.
Which should you pick?
If you want the biggest pool, interest matching or a pair mode, Monkey is the one built for that. If you want to meet people in India, prefer to sign in with Google and stay in a browser, kynq is built for that. Nothing stops you trying both, as long as you're 18 or over.
Whichever you use, keep personal details private and use report and block if a chat goes wrong. Our page on whether Monkey is safe goes through what's documented about it.
Questions people ask
- Is kynq better than Monkey?
- Neither is better for everyone. Monkey is bigger and global, with interest matching and a pair mode. kynq is smaller, matches you within India and asks for your date of birth before you can match.
- Is Monkey on iPhone?
- We couldn't find Monkey on Apple's App Store as of 1 October 2026. Its website describes using it through the browser on iPhone. kynq also runs in the iPhone browser.
- Do both need me to sign in?
- Yes. kynq uses Google sign-in; Monkey uses a one-tap social login.
- Is kynq connected to Monkey?
- No, they're separate, unrelated services.
- Which one is free?
- Both are free to start. Some kynq extras use Koins, which you can earn by chatting.
